How to clean a school dance playlist

Turn a student request list into a clean playlist before a school dance, homecoming or prom, and what to do about songs with no clean version.

Updated 2026-10-24

Student requests arrive as a group chat, a Spotify link or a screenshot, and most of the songs people actually want to hear are explicit. Schools expect every song to be clean, and the chaperone next to the booth knows the words. Here's a routine that gets a whole request list cleaned in a few minutes.

1. Collect the requests in one list

Ask the student council for the list in any form. A YouTube playlist link, a pasted list, an export from Spotify (through Exportify) or Apple Music, or screenshots all work. If it's a mix of formats, use Playlist to text to turn everything into one plain list first.

2. Paste the list into Bleeplist

Paste it into the box on the homepage and hit Build. For every song, Bleeplist looks on YouTube for an upload labelled clean or radio edit that names the same song and artist. It never swaps in the explicit video.

3. Check the songs with no clean version

Some songs, often brand-new or underground tracks, have no clean upload. Bleeplist lists them separately instead of guessing. For those you have three options:

  • Drop the song — usually the easiest call for a school event.
  • Get the clean edit from a DJ record pool, if you subscribe to one.
  • Swap in a clean song with the same energy from a ready-made list like Clean school dance songs.

4. Audition before the night

Clean uploads are labelled by whoever posted them, so listen to the second verse and any bridge before the gig. Clean also only means the swearing is gone — some songs still have themes that don't suit a middle school gym. Test the playlist on the school's network too, because some schools turn on YouTube Restricted Mode.

Start from a ready-made list

If you're building from scratch, these are already cleaned: school dance, middle school, prom and homecoming and graduation.

Clean a playlist now

Paste a YouTube link, a song list or a screenshot and get the clean versions as one YouTube playlist.
