How to make a clean Spotify playlist

Spotify's explicit-content setting blocks explicit songs but doesn't swap in clean versions. Here's how to get a clean playlist that keeps your songs.

There are two different jobs here: stopping explicit songs from playing, and getting the clean versions of the songs you like. Spotify's built-in setting does the first. The second takes a bit more work.

Block explicit songs on Spotify

In Spotify's settings, turn off Allow explicit content. Songs marked explicit are then blocked on that account. On family plans, the plan manager can set this for each member. This is a good safety net for kids' accounts — but explicit songs in a playlist simply stop playing, they aren't replaced with clean ones.

Get the clean versions of your playlist

To keep the songs and lose the swearing, you need the clean version of each track:

  1. Export the playlist with Exportify (free, runs in your browser), or take screenshots of it.
  2. Drop the file or screenshots into Bleeplist. It finds the clean or radio edit of each song on YouTube and opens them as one clean YouTube playlist.
  3. If you'd rather stay on Spotify, search Spotify for each song from that list — clean versions often appear as a separate track with no E badge.

Just want the song list?

Playlist to text turns an Exportify file or screenshots into a plain list you can copy, print or keep as a spreadsheet.
